Challenges of the Oceans themed fortnight
Oceans are a vital resource and their protection is a priority. Thus, France is committed in preserving the oceans through exemplary actions. Effects of humain-induced pollution include ocean acidificaiton and severe disruption of marine ecosystems.
France's action regarding the ocean protection is illustrated by fighting against pollution from land-based and maritime source, underwater noise, and by a ban on single-use plastic bags. Furthermore, marine biodiversity protection is notably reinforced by the establishment of: preservation zones in fishing areas in French waters, which cover the second largest surface in the world, anti-collision systems on French vessels to protect cetaceans, and mangroves and coral reefs protection measures in French overseas territories.
